Film Camp for Girls

Each summer, Femme Film Texas teaches girls about filmmaking and media literacy during an overnight camp devoted to creating a short film project. The girls create their movie from script-to-screen alongside award-winning women filmmakers, and present their work for families and friends at a local cinema.  This summer, we will be hosting the overnight Film Camp for Girls at the University of Texas at Austin. Sign-up today! If you are interested in hosting a summer camp at your school or arts organization, please contact our Executive Director, Michelle Voss, at michelle@femmefilmtexas.org.

The Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders

Femme Film Texas and The Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders spent three years creating an in-school filmmaking elective for economically disadvantaged girls in Austin, Texas. The Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders is a public, all-girls college preparatory school for grades 6-12.

Together, Femme Film Texas and the Ann Richards School provided girls the opportunity to learn a number of filmmaking and internet technologies, such as videography, non-linear editing and blogging, during a free, in-school elective for which they received educational credit. The goal of the program was to encourage media literacy and self-expression while introducing girls to 21st Century communication techniques and career paths. As a result of these efforts, the Ann Richards School is now offering a media track to their high school students.
